best netbook for the money – ASUS EEE PC 1000HE
I’ve been looking for a deal for a reasonably-priced laptop or netbook for quite some time as a backup for work. The main problems I’d found are: laptops on sale are generally too heavy and run on Vista (blech), or netbooks look way cool but have been basically good for nothing other than playing online. I need something that can handle dozens of open documents at a time and be quick about it.After a bunch of research, I came across the latest in the ASUS EEE series. I had read about the EEE when it first came out and thought it was cool, but it seemed more like a toy than something usable for work.
I just read about the 1000HE and it has as much memory, harddrive space and speed as my existing laptop, AND still comes preloaded with XP. WOOHOO! (I’m sorry, but Vista takes double the mem to be half as fast.. not cool in my book.)
Anyway, I shopped around and eventually ordered the 1000HE from Amazon because I know I can send it back if I don’t like it, and I know they will stand behind anything they sell. The price is great too… only 389. I can’t even find a decent regular laptop for that price, and this thing gets GREAT reviews. I will write about it again once I play with it a bit.
